Wednesday August 6, 2025 Summerside PEI to Charlottetown 53 miles and 5 hours
Nice calm morning for our trip to Charlottetown. Expecting winds to gradually build but shouldn't become anything too bad. Out Bedeque Bay and around the lighthouse at Seacow Head Point. Then the full length of Confederation Bridge comes into sight. It's the only bridge connecting PEI to the mainland. Opened in 1997, it is 8 miles long and the world's longest bridge over ice covered waters. Easy passage under the bridge and then a long straight run to get around St. Peters Island. Then a turn to the north and pass by Blockhouse Point Lighthouse. "Otto" has had an easy day of driving!

That turn north put us bow into the wind which was gusting 10-20. Land is offering a bit of protection from serious waves, but we are getting a light consistent short chop. We've been running from the flybridge and the combination of boat speed and heading into the wind is making it feel pretty chilly despite the 70 degree sunny day. Out in the Northumberland Strait we were fighting the current all day. Sometimes losing as much as 2mph. Arrived at Charlottetown Yacht Club. Side tie on the outside of their floating dock. Not our preferred location as the winds are scheduled to change to SW late Friday which will likely give us some bouncing and slapping, but for now a great view of the yacht club's Wednesday Night Sailboat Races.

Not sure why - other than they can - but all the marinas in Charlottetown are super expensive. We're paying $4.50/ft per night!! Thankfully that's Canadian money. Makes the $75 flat rate at Summerside look even more like a bargain. Found out as we were leaving Summerside you can take a bus between the two cities for $2 each way.
